Great Wall Motor Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition Launched; 2.4L turbodiesel engine with 184 PS/480 Nm, electric rear seats

Earlier this year, Great Wall Motor Poer Sahar HEV The double-cab hybrid pickup truck was showcased at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show and the manufacturer has launched a more powerful version of the model at the ongoing 2024 Chengdu Motor Show, the Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition, aimed at more adventurous off-roading.

In this spec, the Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition is powered by a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine that produces 135kW (184PS) and 480Nm of torque, which is a lower peak power figure but more torque than the 244PS/380Nm turbocharged petrol engine in the HEV variant, making for a higher combined power and torque figure of 351PS and 615Nm. The Off-Road Edition will also be available with a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine.

The car’s powertrain includes mechanical locking BorgWarner differentials at the front, middle and rear, and a nine-speed automatic transmission developed by Great Wall Motor. The car has 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels with Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires measuring 265/65R18.

With an overall length of over 5.4 metres and an interior width of 1.6 metres, the Poer Sahar is said to be the ‘largest, widest and most comfortable’ double-cab pickup in its class, according to Great Wall Motor, and like the Poer Sahar HEV that was introduced in Bangkok earlier this year, it boasts rear seats with backrests that can be reclined up to 33 degrees.

The Off-Road version goes one step further by featuring electric adjustment for this movement, although it also ditches the Poer Sahar HEV’s split-side tailgate, instead appearing to use a conventional one-piece item with a retractable lid. Additionally, the Off-Road version comes standard with front and rear metal bars and a snorkel.

In terms of driver assistance systems, the Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition gets Level 2 ADAS which includes features like adaptive cruise control and smart cruise control. Great Wall Motor also claims that the use of noise reduction technology allows the Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition to have segment-leading NVH performance, with a claimed 66.1 decibels when measured from the second row of seats.

In China, the Poer Sahar Off-Road Edition starts at 178,800 yuan (RM109,765) for the Advanced, 188,800 yuan (RM115,895) for the High-End, and goes all the way up to 249,800 yuan (RM153,340) for the Traverse.
