Hello PlayStation community! We’re Monster Couch, and we make digital board game adaptations. The digital version of Wingspan—one of the most acclaimed board games of recent years—is coming to PS5 and PS4 on October 11.
We’re excited to share this with you – let’s start with the basics.
Wingspan is, at its core, a strategic card game where each card is a bird that you place in one of three habitats in your portfolio – wetlands, grasslands, and forests. Sounds easy, right? It is! But the devil is in the details, as each habitat has a specific purpose, and each card you place has its own cost and unique abilities that you can use. By thinking strategically and cleverly combining the birds’ abilities, you’ll create satisfying combinations, chains, and dynamics that will earn you victory points, and by scoring more points than your opponents, you’ll win the game.
At the same time, the game offers a cozy, relaxing escape. You’ll place your birds against an idyllic sanctuary backdrop, listening to their chirping and the game’s serene soundtrack. It’s a change of pace from the breakneck pace of some other games on the market. That’s because we wanted Wingspan to be something you could play to relax, and the visuals and music were created with that in mind.
Let’s talk about gameplay for a moment. Whether you’re a solo player who wants to test your skills against an AI opponent or an Automa (a custom-designed artificial opponent controlled by a deck of cards that works a little differently than an AI player), or playing multiplayer with friends or family locally, you can do it all in Wingspan. You can also go online to join in on matchmaking games with birders from all over the world. There are even weekly challenges for those who really want to show off their competitive side. There’s something here for every type of player!
What sets Wingspan apart from similar titles is that it’s more than just a bunch of mechanics with a theme thrown in. It’s a charming little sanctuary filled with beautiful birds that you create in each game you play, with the birds’ abilities matching their real-life counterparts. For example, your hawks will hunt, your pelicans will fish, and your geese will flock. You can also learn interesting facts about the inhabitants of your sanctuary from the cards.
The cool thing is that when Wingspan launches on October 11, it won’t just be the base game. We’ll be bringing a whole host of expansions and cosmetic content to PlayStation consoles! This includes the two major expansions released so far – Europe and Oceania – with all sorts of new birds from their respective continents and new gameplay elements. In addition, two cosmetic packs will also be available, with new backgrounds and avatars that you can use to customize your in-game profile.
Last but not least – Wingspan will also be launching simultaneously, thanks to the amazing team at Merge Games. The Special Edition Box will include the following:

- Expanding Europe and Oceania
- Seasonal decoration packages
