Square Enix announced that SpongeBob Starnow available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4will move to a free-to-play model starting October 4, 2024. This pricing change marks a significant shift from the game’s previous region-based pricing strategy and is designed to make the game accessible to a wider audience.
Notably, after the switch, players will no longer need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access the game. This means anyone can download and play SpongeBob Star free of charge.
For those who have purchased and downloaded SpongeBob Star Before the switch, Square Enix will offer a “Legacy Gift.” This bundle includes 12 exclusive Bubble Beastie skins in a variety of colors, an exclusive Slide Board design, and a special title called “Legacy.”
Since its launch, Square Enix has updated SpongeBob Star with season packs and additional characters. For example, a new season will begin on August 30, 2024. That will bring an additional playable character. Ahead of its launch, Square Enix shared a song that will appear with the update called “Golden melody.”
The price change will take effect on October 4, 2024. Square Enix advises players to confirm the updated price before downloading the game to ensure they receive the game for free.
