Gal in a Rush Pursues Tapeta Opportunity at Seaway

An efficient sprinter for most of his career, The girl in a hurry broke through at stakes level on July 6 by coming from last to win the Hendrie Stakes (G3) on Tapeta at Honeysuckle. The race was her first on a synthetic road surface.

Now she’s looking for another win on a Canadian track — this time over seven furlongs on Tapeta — when she leads a field of 11 female sprinters in the $135,000 Canadian Seaway Stakes (G3) on Aug. 24.

A 5 year old child Ghost Slayer Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, Chris Larsen and Titletown Racing Stables, Gal in a Rush has a 4-5-2 record in 16 starts for New York trainer Christophe Clement. In addition to the black type she achieved in Hendrie, she has placed in previous starts on turf in North America in the License Fee Stakes, the 2022 Alywow Stakes and the 2021 Matron Stakes (G3T).

Owen’s Tour Guide Runner-up Hendrie, returning to Tapeta after finishing eighth on the grass track, is among the favourites. Ticker Tape Home and the Kentucky invader Middle name are other major factors.

Seaway is the 10th race in an 11-race series taking place on Saturday.
