My hope for Monterey Car Week It’s always that I’ll see cars that I’ve never seen before, either in real life or even better something that I’ve never even seen pictures of in a book or online. This year, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2024 delivered: a 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Ghia Coupe, the last of 36 Ferraris ever produced Ghia car body. Amazing.

I first saw this Ghia Ferrari on Thursday after it ran in the Tour d’Elegance, an hour-long trip down to Big Sur and back that most of the Concours competitors take part in. Even with the cloudy skies over the dirt parking lot where I saw the 375 MM being loaded back into the truck, its Salmon and Anthracite Grey bodywork looked stunning. Seeing it in the bright sunshine on the Pebble Beach golf course made it even more so. Just look at all the gorgeous details like the delicate tail fins, the chrome grille surround and license plate holder, the split two-tone paint job, and the quirky contrasting interior.

This 375 was first introduced at the 1955 Turin Auto Show and later displayed at the New York Auto Show, before being sold to Robert C. Wilke, sponsor of fifteen Indy 500 cars and a friend of Enzo Ferrari. Wilke owned several different custom-built Ferraris and drove them daily in Milwaukee. The car was part of the Blackhawk Collection for sixteen years before being acquired by its current owner.

Like Pininfarina 375 MM race carFrom the factory, the Ghia was powered by a 340-horsepower Lampredi V12 racing engine. It has covered just over 8,000 miles, all but the last thousand of which were done by Wilke, and apart from a factory repaint a few years ago, it is in excellent original condition. It won the Ferrari Early class at this year’s Concours.
