Nissan X-Trail e-Power hybrid: 7 seats, all-wheel drive offered in Japan


Upcoming Nissan X-Trail e-Power hybrid can offer seven seats and a choice of 2WD and AWD when it lands in Australia, according to new information from Japan.

Nissan’s Japanese consumer website details the entire range for the new generation X-Trailwill only be offered in the domestic market with the company’s mass hybrid powertrain.

Both the e-4orce single- and dual-engine front-wheel drive versions will be offered, with additional e-4orce versions offering a five- or seven-seat option depending on the variant.

The Japanese lineup includes a three-row version of the mid-range X e-4orce – which appears to be the equivalent of the Australian ST-L – as well as seven-seat options for the life-focused Extremer X e-4orce. adventure (think .) RAV4 Edge) and Autech e-4orce blingy models are likely not suitable for Australia.

While the Australian X-Trail e-Power lineup is yet to be revealed in detail, we do know what’s available globally. It would be unusual if Nissan didn’t offer a three-row option as a key differentiator from the best-selling car Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Nissan does not quote total system outputs for the e-Power 4WD variants.

The RAV4 Hybrid’s 2.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor develop 160kW in 2WD guise, while the AWD versions produce 163kW thanks to an additional electronic motor on the rear axle.

The motors are powered by a small lithium-ion battery connected to a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine 106kW / 250Nm with variable compression technology.

The sole purpose of the petrol engine is to keep the battery pack fully charged on the go, with electric motors (battery-powered, charged by the engine) driving the front wheels. X-Trail e-Power features 55 liters fuel tank according to Japanese specifications.

The Nissan X-Trail e-Power also features active noise cancellation technology to reduce engine noise that may not be related to driving speed (since the gasoline engine is not directly driving the wheels) and to reduce noise. on the road.

Nissan’s electronic pedal is also included in the X-Trail e-Power, a first for vehicles as all-electric engines. Leaf hatchback and Ariya SUV car. It allows for single-pedal driving via regenerative braking, and Nissan claims it can decelerate up to 0.2G in the X-Trail hybrid.
