With a head start against the rising boys in the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Track August 24, top 3 year old mare Anna Thorpedo has taken the lead in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s Top Thoroughbred poll.
In a quiet week for new names added to the national media rankings, the Top 10 still saw a shift in favor of 3-year-olds.
Daughter of Anna fast received nine first-place votes, two fewer than Mr. Buscador but received a total of 219 points, 24 more than the Saudi Cup (G1) champion.
Thorpedo Anna was bred in Kentucky by Judy Hicks, who co-owns the mare with Nader Alaali, Mark Edwards and Sherri McPeek’s Magdalena Racing, and is a perfect 4-for-4 this season with earnings of $1,790,050. Trained by Kenny McPeek, the three-time Grade 1 winner is expected to make her final training run with the company on Saratoga’s main track on August 16 or 17.
