Several weather forecasters on TV and social media have discussed the monsoon humidity that is hitting the Northwest.
Such as the clouds and accompanying rain that have been falling over eastern Washington over the past few days (see satellite image from last night).
But how can this be? Monsoons belong in Southeast Asia, right? Here in the Pacific Northwest? Sure, we have restaurants named Monsoon that serve Southeast Asian food, but tropical weather seems out of place in the non-tropical Pacific Northwest.
In my new podcast, I’ll talk about the physics of monsoons and look at three examples: the Indian/Southeast Asian monsoon, the West African monsoon, and the North American monsoon….the kind of monsoon that sometimes affects our region.
