MICKY WARD IS BACK TO ATLANTIC CITY – COME HERE THIS FRIDAY


Legendary fighter is special guest at Tropicana AC for Boxing Insider show

ATLANTIC CITYMICKY WARD has captivated boxing fans for years. And he has become a particular favorite of the Atlantic City crowd.

Well, now they get to see him again because he’s Larry Goldberg’s special guest. BOXING INSIDER PROMOTION ABOVE FRIDAY, JULY 26for the biggest boxing match of the summer at TROPICANA ATLANTIC CITY.

Seven-fight card, headlined by world-ranked heavyweights OTTO WALLIN in an eight-round main event with ONORIODE EHWARIEME. And it will be broadcast live by DAZN (“Da Zone”), where viewers can watch the big games on any device. Games start at 7:30 PM ET.

Ward, a native of Lowell, MA, has had a mixed bag of ups and downs in his career. A three-time New England Gloves champion, he won his first fourteen professional fights, but also suffered a losing streak. He had a chance to fight Vincent Phillips for the IBF welterweight title in 1997, only to be stopped due to a cut.

He had better luck in March 2000, when he traveled to the UK and homered in the eighth inning off Shea Neary for the win. WBU (World Boxing Union) 140 pound weight class.

However, what made Micky Ward most famous was his thrilling trio of matches with Hall of Famer Arturo Gatti. Ward won their first meeting by a ten-round majority decision (May 2002), but he lost each of their next two meetings by ten-round decisions, both in Atlantic City (November 2002 and June 2003). Each of those fights left fans breathless.

Ward retired after his third fight with Gatti. But his story doesn’t end there. His early career and family life were chronicled in the film “The Fighter,” for which Mark Wahlberg, who played him, was nominated for a Golden Globe, and Christian Bale (who played his brother) and Melissa Leo (who played his mother) both won Oscars.
