Irishman Micky Ward to appear at boxing insider Friday event

Ali-Frazier. Zale-Graziano. Fury-Wilder.

These are considered some of the greatest trilogies in boxing history – and rightly so. But three fights that took place some twenty years ago between Arturo Gatti and “the Irishman” Micky Ward still send shivers down the spines of boxing fans. These were three real fights that took place in 2002 and 2003. Ward won the first fight. Gatti won the two rematches. Boxing fans won all three. The Ward-Gatti trilogy is still frequently talked about to this day. In fact, I found myself discussing it with the owner of a local bar and restaurant last week (a beautiful painting of the two fighters fighting hangs on the wall).

Ward, the filmmaker Combatant based on, calling it a career after the Gatti trilogy, while Gatti himself unfortunately passed away in 2009. Despite being out of action inside the ring for a long time, Ward is still a sought-after presence in the arena. As such, the famous Ward will appear on Friday night in Atlantic City at Boxing Insider cards, will be sent to Tropicana. Fans looking for an autograph, or just a few words, with the legendary Lowell, MA product will have plenty of opportunities.
