JuiceUP, the open payment system for public electric vehicle charging services, officially launched today in paultan.org Electric Vehicle Exhibition (EVx) in Setia Alam, Selangor by Malaysian Deputy Prime MinisterYAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transformation and Water Treatment.

JuiceUP, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) and domestic payments company, has partnered with Visa to develop an open payment system that supports multiple payment methods, aiming to allow EV users to pay for EV charging without the need for a specific app or subscription plan.

“As more automakers introduce affordable electric vehicles, it is critical that our charging and payment infrastructure and consistent user experience keep up with growing demand. We believe innovation is the core driver to closing this gap, and working closely with stakeholders in the EV ecosystem is key to making this vision a reality,” said JuiceUP CEO Benson Lim.

JuiceUP essentially allows a physical card to be used to pay for public electric vehicle charging, similar to the process of paying for gasoline or diesel. To use JuiceUP, electric vehicle users tap their card on a payment terminal, and after scanning a QR code, users can track their charging progress via a web app that provides real-time updates and access to charging information.

In addition to simplifying the transaction process for EV users at public EV charging points, JuiceUP also provides solutions for charging point operators through a management system to help operators manage the charging network more efficiently.

This provides operators with a centralized platform that allows management and monitoring of all charging points, flexible management of tariffs and rates, tracking of performance timelines of each charging point, fault detection and problem resolution.

“I sincerely hope to see all stakeholders, including industry leaders, financial institutions, renewable energy experts and business owners come together to build an enabling environment for the electric vehicle industry, where we can leverage each other’s expertise to create a robust and seamless experience that meets the growing needs of electric vehicle users,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

“Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in Malaysia and drivers need fast and easy charging and payment options. We are excited to partner with JuiceUP to enhance the payment experience for electric vehicle drivers in Malaysia, in line with our mission to connect the world through the most trusted and secure payment network,” said Brandon Louie, Visa’s regional director for merchant and acquiring in Southeast Asia.
