Jaecoo J7 Officially Launched in Malaysia on July 19

After receiving it Malaysia Preview at the beginning of this year, Jaecoo J7 is set to make its local debut this week on Friday, July 20. Jaecoo Malaysia will be broadcasting the launch of the C-segment SUV from 3pm on the same day via various social media channels, the brand has announced.

Two versions of the J7 were introduced in January this year, one front-wheel drive and the other all-wheel drive, both powered by a 1.6-litre inline-four turbocharged petrol engine that produces 197 PS and 290 Nm of torque, sent to the drive wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The AWD version has seven selectable terrain modes and in terms of off-road capability, the J7 has a ground clearance of 200 mm, a wading depth of 600 mm, with approach and departure angles of 21 degrees and 29 degrees respectively.

Measuring 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, 1,680 mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,672 mm, the Jaecoo J7 has physical dimensions for the C-segment SUV. The price of the J7 is said to be around RM160k for the top-spec AWD variant or around Chery Tiggo 8 Propriced at RM159,800.

In the preview, the J7 is equipped with 19-inch Aurora-inspired two-tone alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, while inside the SUV there is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air-conditioned front seats, leather upholstery, a 50-watt air-cooled wireless charger, 64-color ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control (with rear vents), a powered tailgate and a panoramic sunroof.

The J7’s suite of safety and driver assistance features includes 21 intelligent driving functions. These include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, emergency lane keeping, intelligent collision avoidance system, cornering speed assist, lead vehicle lane departure notification, and an around view monitor.

There’s also open door warning and park assist, rear collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear cross-traffic braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist.

We had a Jaecoo J7 first prototype earlier this year at the Malaysian 4WD Training and Experience Centre (M4TREC), where the SUV was has been tested for its off-road capabilities.. Ahead of its official launch in Malaysia, what do you think about the Jaecoo J7?
