The BYD Dolphin is now $2000 cheaper in Australia for both its variants, as the brand’s best-selling model chases more local sales.
BYD has quietly slashed the price of the Dolphin Dynamic and Premium by $2000, which now cost $36,890 and $42,890 respectively before on-road costs.
This is not enough for Dolphin to beat driver’s prices GWM Orawith Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle (EV) priced from $35,990 nationwide until June 30.

There appear to be no spec changes to the BYD Dolphin that coincide with the price change.
The BYD Dolphin Dynamic has a single electric motor, sending 70kW of power and 180Nm of torque to the front wheels, allowing acceleration from 0-100km/h in 12.3 seconds.
Dolphin Premium upgrades to a 150kW/310Nm electric motor, reducing the 0-100km/h sprint speed to 7.0 seconds.
The Dynamic’s 44.9kWh Blade battery delivers a claimed WLTP driving range of 340km and can be charged at 60kW, while the Premium’s 60.48kWh pack increases these figures to 427km and 80kW respectively.
Both BYD Dolphin versions have a 6-year warranty with a distance of 150,000 km. Its high-voltage battery comes with an 8-year, 160,000km warranty.
Despite being the cheapest BYD sold in Australia, the Dolphin proved less popular than its siblings between January and May 2024, with sales of 1044 units second only to the number 1,044 units. Seal (sales 3386) and Atto 3 (sales 3375).
