Preview Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia
By: Sean Crose
Twenty-seven wins. Not lose. Twenty-five wins by knockout. World titles in multiple weight classes. There’s a reason why Gervonta “Tank” Davis is considered one of the sport’s biggest names. Indeed, he is expected to battle the hugely popular Ryan Garcia over the next few months – provided he beats Hector Luis Garcia 16-0 on Saturday night in Washington DC. Although Davis was clearly favored to step in, Garcia was no joke. A world lightweight champion athlete, this man is famous for turning apple carts upside down. The Davis-Garcia battle will be the main event of the Showtime pay-per-view card.
The last time 28-year-old Davis competed was in May 2022 when he overcame Rolando Romero in an exciting game. Besides getting into fights with Garcia’s, Hector Luis and Ryan, Davis was also reported on about his legal troubles. He was arrested for assaulting his daughter’s mother a few weeks ago (although the woman has now said he did not assault her) and is also due to stand trial for an incident involving a accident and escaped. Until now, however, the man’s many clashes with the American justice system have not significantly affected his performance in the ring.
As for Garcia, he hopes to once again shock the world as he did last year when he beat highly-rated Chris Colbert in a match where he acted as a last-minute substitute. . Garcia then went on to win the WBA junior lightweight championship. Like Davis, Garcia is a southerner. Like Davis, Garcia has never lost a match. While fans are looking forward to another Davis vs Garcia bout, it’s unlikely the boxer dubbed “The Tank” will have a legal knockdown tomorrow night at Capital One Arena in DC.
