Cam Dunker returns for the inaugural R3 Cup weekend after the end of the Supersport Championship 300 earlier in the afternoon.

Dunker supported that performance with a victory in R3 Cup Race One with 1.7 seconds over Sam Pezzetta while Taiyo Aksu stepped onto the podium ahead of Hayden Nelson and Cam Swain.

Second YMF R3 Cup Race

It was Cam Dunker’s #3 machine once again taking the lead as the lights went out Sunday morning for the second and penultimate contest for the YMF R3 Cup rivals for the 2022 season.

Local boy Sam Pezzetta tried to chase Dunker in the opening rounds and that pair started to outstrip Hayden Nelson, Henry Snell and Taiyo Aksu.

Pezzetta took the lead on turn 13 to take the lead from Dunker but Dunker brought him back a few turns and led them over the line to start the third round of the six-round competition. The duo continued to outstrip their pursuers.

The chase group vying for the final step on the podium was Swain, Aksu, Gawith, Hamod, Snell and Hayden Nelson. That group then had another six-second buffer time against ninth-placed Glenn Nelson and tenth-placed local youngster Cooper Rowntree.

Pezzetta was still right on Dunker’s pipe when they started the final lap and followed the little Dunker around the 4.95 km lap.

Pezzetta nearly gave Dunker a turn at several points when he put pressure on but Dunker went on to pick up another win and wrap up his second championship at the weekend.

Sam Pezzetta also had a great ride, while Cam Swain was the best of the rest in third place, crossing the line four seconds behind the leading duo.

YMF R3 . Triple Cup Race

Cam Dunker started the third race as he left the second race, taking the lead. Taiyo Aksu, Hayden Nelson, Sam Pezzetta and Cam Swain were his early chasers in the final six-round bout of the weekend.

However, Dunker ducked and exited the troupe and at half-race distance he had 2.5 seconds ahead of the aforementioned troupe, who had meleeded to take second place. In the final table, Dunker led by more than 3.2 seconds.

Pezzetta passed Hamod a few bike distances early on the final lap, Aksu fourth, Swain fifth, Nelson sixth and Snell seventh. Pezzetta went on to win the battle for second place while Taiyo Aksu stepped onto the podium ahead of Hamod and Swain. That third place also helped Aksu take third place in the championship ahead of Hayden Nelson.
