Mechanic pulls backpack out of Dumpster and discovers abused puppy
A mechanic named RJ recently saved a life in a typical workday. While working at a Midas auto shop in Shakopee, Minnesota, he heard a loud thud coming from a trash can. At first, he assumed it was a raccoon looking for snacks, but something forced him to check.
RJ’s curiosity ultimately saved the life of an innocent puppy, who was abused before lying in the trash. If RJ hadn’t been so observant, the puppy might have gone unnoticed for too long. But now, the puppy is living his best life despite his difficult past.
Puppy stuck in Dumpster
RJ suspects something is amiss when he hears a knock inside the trash can. When he looked inside, he saw a moving backpack, but it made no sound. So he cautiously opened it, and he closed his eyes to the most pet dog.
“I opened it and the dog literally lifted its head and looked up, and I didn’t even know what to say. I just started crying there,” said RJ

Luckily, the puppy was thrown in the trash after picking it up, so RJ found it at the perfect time. The dog was locked in a hot backpack with nothing to eat or drink. RJ decided to name the puppy Midas because he said the dog needed a name to be taken to the vet.
At the vet, staff confirmed that Midas showed many signs of abuse. He suffered a broken jaw and a bacterial infection in his lungs, but he is currently being treated for both.
The worst day becomes the best day
After taking him to the vet, RJ knew he couldn’t part with the puppy. He is planning to adopt it if all goes well. However, he said if Midas was stolen and there was a kind owner there, he would give it up. But he will need some solid proof first.
The Shakopee Police Department is using this story to remind dog owners not to leave their dogs like this. There are many more humane options for keeping dogs in captivity, such as taking them to a shelter or rescue.

“Although this story had a happy ending, it could have played out differently. If you are a pet owner who needs to surrender an animal, we encourage you to do so in a humane manner. With social media and the internet at our fingertips, there’s no shortage of options for finding someone willing to adopt your pet. Be kind to our animal friends! ‘ wrote the police department.
The only things in the backpack other than Midas were a fake grill and some plastic bags. So it is not clear who abandoned him and why, but the most important thing is that he is safe now. He starts his day in a junkyard but ends it with a loving family that cares for him. That’s the best possible outcome!
