In the year 2021, All children’s bikesA nationwide movement with a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in Kindergarten, has received a $30,000 grant from Yamaha Motor Corp, USA‘S Outdoor Outreach Initiative. The goal of the grant is to bring the Kid’s Bike program to six schools near Yamaha corporate offices, including four in Georgia and two in California.
Fast-forward to this spring, with Yamaha volunteers and All Kids Bike ambassadors delivery the last of six study programs for Cara J. King Elementary School in Cypress, California, completed its funding last year and set the stage for more funding in 2022.
“We are grateful for Yamaha’s support of All Kids Bike, the funding needed to bring the program to six schools, and the volunteer efforts Yamaha employees and partners have contributed to. providing bicycles to schools and primarily an opportunity to have more kids than Ryan McFarland, Founder of All Kids Bike, who attended the first Yamaha-sponsored delivery at a school in Cypress on said last fall.

Volunteers from Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S. offices in Marietta, Georgia and Cypress, California, and from Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America in Newnan, Georgia, helped deliver the Kids Bike programs for schools in the past year.
The six schools that receive programs from Yamaha’s Outdoor Outreach Initiative funding include:
- Elm Street Elementary School in Newnan, Georgia
- Western Elementary School in Newnan, Georgia
- AL Burruss Elementary School in Marietta, Georgia
- Lockheed Elementary School in Marietta, Georgia
- Juliet Morris Elementary School in Cypress, California
- Clara J. King Elementary School in Cypress, California
“The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is an inclusive program that supports and promotes outdoor recreation, and we have made this grant available to help more children in addition to learning valuable skills that they can build for the rest of their lives,” said Steve Nessl, marketing manager for Motorsports at Yamaha. “The Kids Bike Program for All Children provides a unique opportunity for some of these children to develop confidence and experience the freedom of two-wheeling.”
All Kids Bike programs include 24 balance bikes, pedal converters, helmets and teacher bikes. It is a plug-and-play program for public schools that aligns with the US SHAPE National Physical Education Standards and also includes the eight-piece Kindergarten Sports Curriculum, training and certification for teachers, and a five-year support plan.
To date, nearly 550 elementary schools in all 50 states have adopted and implemented the Kids Bike program with an estimated 380,000 students benefiting from the program over the next five years.
Benefits of cycling for kids
Childhood development never stops. By continuing to expand the Kids Bike program this year, more children across the country are learning essential health and life skills while staying away from the computer screen and spending time more for outdoor activities.
The Kindergarten Program supports critical health and safety needs, including:
- Spatial Awareness: Teach a child the concept and understanding of “safe distancing” to a child.
- Limited touch points: Specifically specified hand placement limits multi-layered touch points.
- Boosts overall health: Core muscle development, cardiovascular performance, and mental motivation.
Learning to ride a bike at an early age boosts confidence while developing balance, mobility, safety, environmental awareness, and facilitation. The bicycles used in the Kids Bike program allow children and teachers to progress in the riding process fearlessly and with encouragement. Children develop their skills with each session, first learning to balance, then learning to pedal, all on the same bike.
