Not only 2023 Mazda MX-30 R-EV rotary plug-in hybrid revealed, it’s currently in production, actually making it a reality. Production begins on Thursday. This is an important event since Mazda hasn’t built a rotary-powered car in over a decade.
That last rotation was 2012 RX-8using a 1.3 liter twin-rotor engine. The last engine was built on June 22, 2012, Exactly 11 years ago. The engine of the MX-30 R-EV is an 830 cc single-rotor combined with a 168 hp electric motor, the latter providing all forward thrust. On the other hand, rotary motors simply produce electricity.
These first MX-30 R-EVs are destined for Europe and will go on sale starting this fall. The conventional electric MX-30 has been much more successful in Europe than in other markets with over 15,000 units sold (as opposed to sales in triple digits in the US). Supposedly, Mazda will launch Dip into the mixture in the US, this will be much more realistic in the US than the 100 mile EV version, but time frame is not clearsuppose it happens.
Mazda also notes that by the end of production of the RX-8, the company has built 1.99 million rotary automobiles in its history. So now we will be curious to see if this powertrain will reach 2 million units, through sales of around 100,000 units of the MX-30 R-EV or with unreleased rotary engine models. dad.
