Although Yordenis Ugas is widely respected by everyone in the boxing world, in general most believe he will fall a little short in his quest to become a unified champion.
In just a few short days, on April 16, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Ugas will attempt to capture both Errol Spence Jr.’s WBC and IBF welterweight titles. , the current WBA jewelry holder believes he is in pristine condition.
However, despite his unwavering conviction, both bettors and fans shrugged. In Spence Jr., the Dallas production will have the public support of its home audience. In addition to the undying support, Spence Jr performed flawlessly in the ring, taking a 27-0 record. Even if the 32-year-old has problems out of the box, including a horrific car crash in 2019 and a detached retina requiring surgery in 2021, many believe Ugas is on top of him.
Though countless dubious voices continued to give their unsolicited opinions, Ugas paid no heed to them. Instead, the Cuban star is focusing entirely on destroying the fusion star.
“I am a competitor,” Ugas told a group of reporters recently. “My goal is to come here and win. I don’t intend to come here and accept losses of any kind. I came here on a mission, and that was to get all three belts.”
More than just his unyielding and never-say-die demeanor, Ugas believes his recent unprecedented run will lead him to victory of the night. With 12 victories in the last 13 times in the ring, Ugas seems to have become his own.
Of course, in addition to winning against notable boxers like Jamal James, Ray Robinson and Omar Figueroa Jr. – Ugas has retired Manny Pacquiao. The two officially clashed in August 2021, after Spence Jr withdrew due to his previously mentioned eye injury.
A staunch Ugas turned a crowd of Pacquiao supporters into dismay as he went on to hand out his first future Hall of Famer ballot as the final loss in his illustrious career.
With the 35-year-old slugger now on the brink of the biggest night of his career, Ugas smiled broadly as he was bombarded with relentless questions.
“I’m just having fun. I’m happy to be fighting in front of 30 to 40,000 people. You’ll see that the excitement comes on Saturday night.”
