Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Manchester United manager after a string of bad results
Solskjaer has seen a disappointing start to the season, with the club sitting in seventh place in the Premier League. They have lost four of their past five matches, including a massive 5-0 loss at home to rivals Liverpool.
The former United striker took over as caretaker manager in 2018 and was later signed on a permanent contract, but his position has come under close scrutiny for several weeks.
“Ole will always be a Manchester United legend and it is with regret that we have come to this difficult decision,” the club said in a statement.
“While the past weeks have been disappointing, they shouldn’t obscure all of the work he’s done over the past three years to rebuild the foundation for long-term success.”
Assistant coach Michael Carrick will take charge of the team’s upcoming matches, while the club look for a long-term replacement for Solskjaer.
