In a search warrant provided to CNN by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed said in an interview with law enforcement that she or support master Sarah Zachry had picked up ammo for the movie from someone named Seth Kenney at the PDQ Arm and Prop.
Authorities outlined two possible ways with supplies on set and in the gun fired by actor Alec Baldwin that led to the death of director of photography Halyna Hutchins.
Thell Reed, Gutierrez Reed’s father and an industry veteran, told detectives in an interview earlier this month that he gave Kenney a “can of bullets” with live rounds for training. for another movie this year — and that the can is still believed to be in Kenney’s possession, according to an affidavit released Tuesday.
Reed explained that he would never get the rest of the bullets back after the previous production ended.
“After several attempts to get it back from Seth, Seth advised Thell to ‘delete it.’ Thell claims that this ammunition can match the ammunition found on the Rust set,” the subpoena read.
Kenney also told authorities about another way in which live ammunition could have been mixed with the supply, according to the affidavit.
In an interview a few days after the shooting in October, Kenney told a detective that he often uses a manufacturer called Starline Brass to make ammunition. However, two days later, Kenney called the detective back to say he had received “reloaded ammo” from a friend two years earlier “stuck with him.” The bullet, which Kenney suspected was real, was in a cartridge with the logo of Starline Brass, a company he said only sells ammunition components, not live ammunition.
In her own interview with law enforcement last month, Zachry said there are many additional sources for the film, including some Gutierrez Reed supplies from pre-production and additional rounds. from someone who came across “Billy Ray.”
CNN has reached out to Kenney for comment.
In a statement, Jason Bowles, an attorney for Gutierrez Reed, called the subpoena “a huge step forward today to uncover the full truth about who booked the live rounds on the set of ‘Rust’.”
“We are confident that the FBI will now compare and analyze the ‘live spins’ seized from the studio with the evidence seized in the search warrant to pinpoint the source of the live spins.” .
New details
A series of incident reports released Tuesday by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office also include previously unknown details about police’s initial response to the “Rust” filming and interviews. which the authorities conduct immediately afterwards.
Authorities interviewed 12 people who were in the church at the time of the shooting, according to response workers’ accounts in newly released reports.
Superintendent Joel Souza, who was injured in the incident, issued a statement to a member of the sheriff’s office as he sat on a bed in the hospital’s trauma room with a “half-inch hole” in his shoulder. before he “was given any previous medication. let the doctor remove the suppository.”
“Joel explained that he remembers a movie worker or gun handler before [beginning] to shoot gunfights. Joel explained that he thinks he heard someone say the gun ‘cool’ means it’s been lifted but isn’t sure,” the report reads. Gutierrez Reed was described as “very emotional” and “more agitated” after the shooting and was found by investigators while walking with a gun in hand, according to reports.
“I spotted Hanna (sic) walking back to the structure with a shotgun in her left hand with the muzzle pointing down. I observed that Hanna (sic) was very emotional and at this point I took hold of the gun. pistol,” the report said. . “Hanna (sic) was very emotional and became more agitated because of the incident. I advised Hanna (sic) not to be arrested multiple times and put her in the back of my unit with the rear passenger door. open but the car is locked”. I have a personal medical examination (sic) about [Hannah]. “
The report said that Baldwin approached an officer who was taping a crime scene tape and asked to speak to him.
While securing the perimeter of the church with crime scene video, “I was approached by a man and told me he had to talk to me, I told the man that I would stay next to him right after I did my duty The man told me he had to talk to me because he was the one who fired the gun I looked at the man and recognized him as famous actor Alec Baldwin.
