Podcasts are nothing new, but until Spring 2020 when I was daily doomscrolling and the “stumbling future” has gone from colloquialism to the concept that I seek the best Please make me happy podcasts. It was a time when I looking for fun by all means and every way I can find it. I embrace the novelty of biweekly grocery trips, infuse long-distance relationships with renewed gratitude, and put many of my neighborhood walks in the soundtrack of my podcasts. cheerfully reminds me to smile.

While much has changed in the two years since, you don’t have to travel far to get that annoying headline on your screen. The world is vast and complex, filled with so many problems, understandably, coloring our days with confusion, anxiety, and sometimes despair. And while we can acknowledge these truths and do our best to contribute and support others in meaningful ways, we can also look for the moments and opportunities that bring us into the world. The path of emotional happiness is very humane.

Why do you recommend it: The whole premise is this: educate you on things that are entertaining but not important. Knox and Jamie are a hilarious duo who tackle everything from pop culture current events to what’s going on. Not to do on a first date, or when you’re traveling, or on Instagram (in their hilarious series, “What NOT…”). This podcast is ALL about fun and entertainment. I cried and laughed and I felt like Knox and Jamie were my real-life friends (don’t tell me they weren’t).

Why do you recommend it: I don’t remember much going to the office, but there’s one thing I really crave: small talk. Not the life-ruining kind or anything — just the fun stuff. This kind of secret exchange helps build a sense of community and camaraderie. Host Kelsey McKinney (with a rotating selection of witty guests) searches for the best stories from “friends and buddies” for a gripping story time — beginning mimic the endorphin footage of the office chatter that I so desperately crave.

Why do you recommend it: Bill Simmons has established himself as one of the sports industry’s finest writers and producers. Admittedly, his Boston roots have long generated lively and interesting debates. (His Celtics loyal guy – which I love!) But recently, Simmons has been shifting his rhythm, or at least some of her energy, to filming.

His latest work, The Rewatchables, is an interesting take on the conversation of film critics. Simmons and his amazing co-stars take a look at some of the greatest films of our time, from Titanic arrive Concealment, break them down to see why they’re worth watching over and over again. It’s an interesting and insightful study of some of the best movies ever made.

Why do you recommend it: I’m a longtime fan of Greg McKeown’s work. his book, General theory is one of my favorites, and when he launched a new podcast this year to help others “design a life that really matters,” it was an immediate “follow-up” for him. with me. This probably won’t make you lol, but it’s been like a panacea for the stresses of life, reminds me of what’s really important combined with real advice that I can apply. use that day. In the morning, walking around my hood with my AirPods on is like a deep cleansing breath for the soul.

Absolutely not

Why do you recommend it: Whenever I need a good laugh, this is the podcast I turn to. Heather McMahan is one of my all-time favorite comedians, and every episode brings me to tears. She’s real, she’s hilarious and feels like an all-in-one professional best friend and storyteller. But be warned: This case is NSFW and not intended for children’s ears.

Why do you recommend it: This was one of the first podcasts I started listening to and all I can say is this: I’m so grateful that Molly Wizenberg and Matthew Amster-Burton decided to spend hours (days, years…) of their time. Take their time to review random, nostalgic dishes and talk at length about any food topic that pops up in their brains. The commentary is *funny* and will make you think differently about everything from apples to rotisserie to countless Coke flavors. Oh — and they rate Trader Joe’s favorites — so of course you’ll want to listen.
