7 things to know before booking at Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa

With seemingly endless possibilities when it comes to hotel accommodation, restaurants and fun things to do Cabo San Lucas, Mexicoone all-inclusive resort may be the last thing on your mind. After all, you’re encouraged to spend as much time on the property as you can because you’ve already paid for everything up front. But if you are a solo traveler looking to mingle or a couple looking for a fun getaway, the adults-only Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa might be worth considering.

Here are seven things to know before booking there – and why my husband and I are already planning our next trip.

ASHLEY ONADELE / THE DANGEROUS POINTS

Cost

Room rates for a standard suite with a king-size bed and marina views range from $450 to $1,150 per night. Also, you can exchange from 21,500 to 29,500 Hyatt’s World points per night. If you can spend them, try to use your points on more expensive nights. Doing this can get you nearly 3 cents worth of each World of Hyatt point for every night you stay, far more than 1.7 cents per point TPG . Value World of Hyatt only at.

Standard room rates include meals at every restaurant except Ocote, the only Mexican eatery on the premises, where meals cost an extra $40 per person unless you’re staying in an accessible accommodation Xhale Club. Room rates also include most beverages (including premium alcoholic beverages like Anejo tequila while staying in a room or suite at Xhale Club), plus $200 in resort credits that can be used Used for spas, meals at Ocote and excursions. I didn’t know about the latter after we booked.

For what it’s worth, I don’t see many people in the Xhale Club lounge, and the resort isn’t full enough to feel like the potential exclusivity the space offers would be worth the increased cost. That said, I was very disappointed that there was no Anejo tequila in the standard drink pack.

Advantages

  • Service was great. Staff knew our names and checked in during our stay when they saw us passing.
  • I was pleasantly surprised by the food and drinks of this property. They were delicious enough that I don’t think I missed out by not leaving the resort.
  • The main pool (and party) is far enough from the rooms that you can enjoy the peace and quiet of being in your room.
  • Each accommodation has views of the marina.

Defect

  • The aforementioned resort credits cannot be used retroactively for things like prepaid spa treatments. I didn’t know about the credit until I arrived at the resort, so I booked and paid for spa treatments in advance based on advice written in my pre-travel email. Unfortunately, I was unable to receive a refund or credit.
  • The hotel is located in two buildings, so although the distance between the party areas and the rooms is great for relaxing, getting around is not always convenient.

Vibe: Party scene

While there are two main areas of the resort to visit, the one with the larger pool is the place to go. There’s a DJ all day until the party moves to the rooftop in the evening. At the pool, there are cabanas and loungers facing the water, and loungers arranged for picturesque ocean views. Extra chairs without umbrellas or palapa covers are also available for those who just want to sunbathe.

Waiters are around to get drinks and food, but you can also grab breakfast and lunch at a poolside restaurant with a full menu.

If you’re not necessarily looking for a party scene while on vacation, you can spend time at the quieter pool in the main building. This pool also has a DJ, but with fewer guests and views of the marina instead of the beach.

Room

Every room at Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa has a view of the marina – and it’s beautiful. The bed faces the marina so you can watch the boats come and go with your feet.

Our 484-square-foot Allure Suite features a king-size bed next to the nightstand, as well as a balcony with bistro seating and a bathroom with a large shower and double sink. The oak wall and door trim separating the façade of the room and bathroom from the master bedroom and balcony is a beauty that lends a sense of tranquility to an otherwise stimulating environment. I love sitting out on the balcony in the morning with a cup of coffee made with the in-room coffee machine.

In the room is a smart tablet to order room service and find hotel information. It’s incredibly convenient to be able to order room service from your tablet instead of having to call in.

The coffee machine also had a small fridge stocked with a few local beers, water and small cans of Coke products for whenever we wanted a quick refreshment.

Eating

The food and drinks at the resort exceeded my expectations. I’m never sure what will happen with hotel food service, but I think the relatively small size of this resort and its clientele has allowed for the awe-inspiring menus and selections. Choose food that suits your taste.

Our first stop was at Bites, a tapas restaurant with delicious appetizers, seafood and drinks. We arrived at the hotel before our room was ready, so after leaving our bags at the front desk we were escorted there for lunch. It was a great way to start our time at the resort. We had fresh guacamole and chips and shrimp sandwiches. Margarita is made with freshly squeezed lemons – no premixes here. We especially enjoyed our lunch here, as well as the internationally influential breakfast we had at Spoon.

Again, the resort’s size comes into play at breakfast when there’s no line for the omelette station in the buffet. The wait staff were also very attentive and we had coffee and fresh orange juice waiting for us when we went back to get our food.

We ate at Spumante Italian restaurant once during our stay and I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh our meals were. Room service is also great. We conveniently order from the tablet on our nightstand and have virtually no wait. Within 30 minutes our food was delivered and placed on the table at the foot of the bed overlooking the marina.

Since this is a party resort, I couldn’t pass up Foam, the pool bar. While not a swim-up bar, the servers are there to take orders so you never have to leave the water – or your shack – if you don’t want to.

Activities

The resort doesn’t specialize in many on-site activities unless you take into account the spa and gym. The gym is in the same building as the pool and most of the restaurants, a short walk from the main building and closer to the beach. The spa is also located in this building and overlooks the pool and the beach. There is a deck with benches for guests to enjoy after their service.

There was a DJ at the main pool every day we were there and sometimes a staff member would blow up the crowd with some choreography. It was really fun.

You can use your included resort credits for off-campus excursions like all-terrain driving and wine excursions that can pick you up at the marina. These credits can also be used for spas, but just remember to wait until you arrive at the hotel to reserve your spa time. I made the mistake of booking before knowing I would get resort credit and they couldn’t give me a refund.

You can also head to the beach, which is equipped with loungers and umbrellas, if you want to soak up the sunshine.

introduction

I loved my time at Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa, so much so that my husband and I plan to return for two nights next year. With our option to book your stay with World of Hyatt points it’s easy to transfer from Pursuing the ultimate rewardthere’s no reason to spend cash (unless, of course, there’s no prize room on the days you want).

Given that our lives are anything but a party when we travel with our two young children – unless you consider the kids club, shallow pool and nap time as special time appropriate – we love the vibrant atmosphere available here. Our proximity to home in the Bay Area also means we don’t have to travel too far to feel like we’re going.

If you’re looking for a great time, great food, and a nice room with a view, Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa is worth a visit.
