5 unexpected trends that are winning this summer
As much as I like to think I know everything about the fashion horizon, the honest truth is that predicting trends is not an exact science. Some formed during a slow crawl, eventually peaking, while others seemed to emerge spontaneously without much warning. Whether it’s a feeling in the air or a very purposeful hug, sometimes there’s really no reason why particular trends should immediately grab everyone’s attention. But as a fashion editor, when this happens, it’s something you tend to notice. And I’ve definitely noticed them.
One of the biggest unexpected trends that really took off this summer is lucite heels. Years ago, I vividly remember saving a whole year to buy a pair of Maryam Nassir Zadeh transparent lace-up shoes. Those were It’s sandals at the time, and every fashion editor I know had them. Lucite heels haven’t been on my radar since then, but surprisingly in 2022, it’s made a bit of a comeback. Now they are everywhere. The same goes for wire heart pendants. Looking at them makes me instantly reminisce about my childhood in the ’90s—never in my wildest dreams did I think it would become the cult accessory it is now.
