While no one was particularly surprised when Devin Haney won the undisputed lightweight world championship this past weekend in Australia, his impressive performance against world renowned tennis player George Kambosos did left quite an impact on fans as well as analysts. Kambosos is a serious boxer with considerable talent. One cannot dominate the formerly undefeated Aussie without the focus, dedication and ability required to do so. In other words, the world now sees Devin Haney as a force to be reckoned with.

Here are five takeaways from Haney’s Saturday class:

  1. Bill Payment Skills: Devin Haney is no longer on the sidelines. Though known around the fighting world, the Vegas-based boxer was certainly not a favorite of the media before this past weekend. Haney is not flashy or colorful like many of her peers. It doesn’t matter when the opening bell rings on Saturday, and it won’t matter when the opening bell rings in Haney’s future battles. In a sport that celebrates the hot – Haney brings the steak.
  2. All roads lead to Haney: The more colorful fighters, the likes of Teofimo Lopez, Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis or Ryan Garcia might naturally attract more attention than Haney, but it’s simply impossible to ignore him for now. ta. All media darlings must at least prove they’re legally willing to compromise with Haney if they want to continue to be respected by their fans.
  3. The contest has to wait its turn: However, no matter how badly some fighters might want to take on Haney, Kambosos has a chance to redeem himself first. There was a rematch clause in the contract for last weekend’s game.
  4. He’s so good: It was easy to dismiss Haney, calling him an email champ or someone who couldn’t afford to step out of the way before last weekend. No more. Teofimo Lopez showed how good he is by beating Vasyl Lomachenko, Kambosos showed how good he is at defeating Lopez, and now Haney has shown how good he is at overcoming Kambosos.
  5. He’s a star now: Hungry for the limelight or not, Haney is currently one of the top dogs in the sport of boxing. Being an undisputed champion means that you are a division king, and – until you are dethroned – all other fighters in your division are mere subjects. This particular king can be difficult to dethrone.
