5 reasons why this weird camera is so cool

Digital cameras have only been around for a short while compared to the long history of film photography, and that means that in those decades some truly interesting and unique cameras have been born. . One of the weirdest and most beloved of them all is the Rollei 35, and this great video takes a look at 5 reasons why it’s such a fun and exciting camera.

Coming to you from Mattias Burling, this neat video see Rollei 35. The Rollei 35 series features some of the most popular cameras ever produced, with over two million units produced. First announced at Photokina 1966, it was the smallest 135 camera ever produced at the time of its launch. Available in a number of models with different built-in 40mm lenses, the Rollei 35 is a true area-of-focus camera (not a rangefinder or SLR). The lens is retracted into the camera body for greater portability and the hot shoe is located at the bottom, meaning the flash is mounted upside down. The SE and TE models feature impressively accurate in-viewfinder LED metering, and loading movies requires removing the entire back of the camera body. If it sounds like a design nightmare, believe me, it all works in some way; in fact, it is my favorite film camera to shoot. Check out the video above for the full Burling rundown.
