The Retirement Racehorse Project (RRP) today announced the acceptance of 482 trainers, both individual and team members, to the 2022 class of the National Symposium and Thoroughbred molting. , presented by the Mastery Charity of America (TCA).
Thoroughbred Makeover is the world’s largest and most lucrative old horse retraining contest, awarding more than $100,000 in prize money annually since 2015. The Makeover returns to a one-year format in 2022 after the 2020 event was postponed resulting in a “double” makeover in 2021, with two years of competition taking place simultaneously. The 2022 molt will take place October 12-15, 2022 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Open to professionals, juniors, amateurs and teams, Thoroughbred Makeover is a competition for the retraining of recently retired old racehorses. Competition is available in ten disciplines, with coaches choosing to compete in up to two: barrel racing, competitive track, lagoon, event, field hunter, polo, farm work, craftsman performance hunting, diving and freestyle (a free-form subject to showcase skills chosen by the instructor).
The horses all competed in the preliminary round in their respective disciplines, with the top five horses in each subject returning for the Grand Finals on Saturday to determine the final place.
