Three men have died in three days in Vermont after falling into the ice on Lake Champlain in Vermont, according to state police.
On Thursday, Wayne Alexander, a 62-year-old ice fisher, left home to go fishing around midday. He was expected to be home around 6 p.m., but when he didn’t show up, a relative went looking for him and found his truck at Grand Isle State Park and called the government. right around 8:30pm. police said.
State and local police found him in the water around 9:30 p.m. The man was wearing a flotation device and was towed to shore and taken to hospital. However, he was later declared dead, police said.
On Saturday, brothers John Fleury, 71, and Wayne Fleury, 88, were in their off-road utility vehicle at about 7:10 a.m. when the vehicle sped through the ice. Wayne Fleury was rescued by a diver and pronounced dead at the scene, while John Fleury was pulled out of the water, given medical attention and taken to hospital. He died that day, police said.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife urged people in the area to stay away from the ice over the weekend.
