Four months after arriving at the scene with a blister Nürburgring four-door lap record of 7 minutes 7.55 seconds, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has landed in Malaysia. The most extreme example of Zuffenhausen’s pioneering electric sports car is also its most expensive, with a starting price of RM1.16 million – RM100,000 more than the already powerful Turbo S.

New usage recently introduced Taycan upgrade As a base, the Turbo GT is a huge performer. It still uses dual motors – rather than the three-motor setup found in the Tesla Model S Plaid And Sapphire Clear AirIts more powerful rear motor raises total output to 789 PS (580 kW). This is increased to 1,033 PS (760 kW) for up to two seconds when launch control is engaged.

At its peak, the engine produces a staggering 1,108 PS (815 kW) and 1,340 Nm of torque – 156 PS and 230 Nm more than the Turbo S. Some of this is reserved for the new Attack Mode, which builds on the push-to-overtake feature on the facelifted Taycan. This gives you an additional 163 PS (120 kW) for up to ten seconds, accessible via a push of a button on the rotary drive mode selector on the steering wheel or by pulling the right paddle.

Despite the performance boost, the Turbo GT is only a tenth of a second quicker from 0 to 100 km/h than the Turbo S, doing it in 2.3 seconds. But it’s at higher speeds that the improvement is most noticeable – it shaves more than a second off the 0 to 200 km/h time, taking just 6.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is around 30 km/h higher at 290 km/h.

Accompanying the power increase is a weight-saving exercise that includes making the B-pillar trim, door mirror covers and sill plates carbon fibre, as well as fitting carbon bucket seats as standard, a lighter bootlid and removing the electric boot lid function.

You also get 21-inch forged alloy wheels with raised spokes to save weight and cool the brakes, along with redesigned carbon ceramic brakes, which alone shave two kilograms. Overall, though, the diet only shaves five kilograms off the Turbo S, and with a kerb weight of 2,290 kilograms, it’s still not a light car.

To save even more weight, you’ll have to switch to the Weissach Package, which removes the rear seats (a carbon storage shelf replaces them), the Sport Chrono clock, some of the insulation, and even the carpet. There’s also just a manual charging port door on the passenger side, while lightweight glass and a stripped-down audio system sans rear speakers have been installed. All of this adds up to a further 70kg (155lbs) off a car that still tips the scales at 2,220kg (4,600lbs).

Still, the Weissach Package is significantly quicker than the standard Turbo GT. It shaves a tenth of a second off the century sprint (2.2 seconds) and another two-tenths off the double (6.4 seconds). Its top speed is also higher at 195 mph.

This is the spec that the Turbo GT used to achieve the aforementioned Nürburgring lap record, as well as the production EV record at Laguna Seca with a time of 1 minute 27.87 seconds. Surprisingly, this package is a no-cost option in Malaysia.

On the outside, the Turbo GT looks stern and low, riding on a revised Porsche Active Ride air suspension. Building on the sharp looks of the facelifted Turbo and Turbo S, a large front splitter with integrated air flaps and a carbon-fiber Gurney on the active rear wing are included. The Weissach package replaces the rear wing with a fixed rear wing and introduces a front spoiler and diffuser, all of which together generate up to 220 kg of downforce.

Inside, you get Race-Tex leather and microfiber upholstery, as well as bucket seats with “Turbo GT” embroidery on the headrests and special badging on the center console. The Weissach package adds another badging in front of the driver.
