2024 Lexus LM launched in Malaysia – new Alphard-based luxury 4-seater MPV coming soon?
Lexus Malaysia has just released a teaser for this car model. New second generation LM on its Instagram profile. The MPV is extremely luxurious – based on the fourth generation Toyota Alphard – is the last of the trio (the other being fire) comes here, even though the is first revealed to the world back last April.
Despite the common underpinnings, the latest LM is quite different from its sibling, so much so that it now has the unique AW10 codename (which is ironically shared with the original AW10/AW11 MR2; the Alphard is AH40). The dashboard and much of the interior panels are different, and importantly, so are the exterior panels – including the inverted D-pillar “fins” shown in the trailer – which means we will see much less “convert” this time.
New features include the addition of Lexus’ Tazuna infotainment interface for the first time NX second generationcombines a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 14-inch central touchscreen, physical climate control dials, and the removal of the terrible Remote Touch pad.
You also get a 23-speaker Mark Levinson Reference sound system, a Lexus Climate Concierge system, and on the four-seat model, a large 48-inch widescreen rear display that can be used in split-screen form with two HDMI input, along with a refrigerator.
The outgoing LM350 is only available with four seats, although a seven-seat option is available in other markets; It remains to be seen whether distributor UMW Toyota Motor will offer a second product this time around. Perhaps the company could mirror its approach its Australian counterpartwhere the LM is sold as a seven-seater in LM350h form and a four-seater in LM500h form.
One thing is for sure: the LM will no longer have a V6 engine, all variants are now four-cylinder hybrids. The LM350h uses a 2.5 liter A25A-FXS naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle engine with a capacity of 190 horsepower/236 Nm connected to an eCVT, equipped with twin electric motors that produce 182 horsepower and torque. 270 Nm. Total system power is rated at 250 PS.
There is also the LM500h that uses the same 4-wheel drive Direct4 powertrain as the LM500h. RX500h. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter T24A-FTS 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a capacity of 275 horsepower/460 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an 87 horsepower/292 Nm electric motor. . A separate 103 PS/169 Nm motor drives the rear wheels, contributing to a total system output of 371 PS and 550 Nm.
Whichever variant UMW Toyota decides to offer here won’t come cheap. The first generation LM350 is currently priced at RM1,208,000 and with import prices from Japan steadily increasing, we can expect the new one to be even more expensive.
