The slow but steady flow of Hyundai Kona 2024 Details continue with some specifications for the electric version. Besides bigger overallThe small SUV is slightly larger in size battery package as well as a bit more horsepower than its predecessor. And it has a slight edge over its cousin, Electric vehicle Kia Niro.
Powering is a 65.4 kWh battery pack, marking a 1.4 kWh increase. And while that’s not much, it’s enough to emit a bit more range. Comparing the WLTP range, the new one can go 304 miles versus 301. EPA the range will definitely be lower, but there will be a slight bump compared to the current Electronics Kona 258-mile range, as well as Niro EV 253 miles range.
Interestingly, there’s now a short-range Kona Electric with a 48.4 kWh battery pack, as well as a less powerful electric motor. hyundai didn’t say in its official documents whether it would be offered in the US, but car and driver suggest that it has reason to believe this is not coming to Statesside. We tend to agree, as it can be difficult to do when a similarly low range Leaf Nissan will certainly be much more affordable, and more powerful, longer range Chevy Bolt will likely be priced similarly.
On the topic of power, the long-range Kona Electric we’re almost certain to get now has 218 hp, 17 hp more than both older models. Kona or present Niro. This comes at the obvious cost of torque, though. Hyundai’s listing only twists at 188 pound-feet rather than the 291 tire squeaks you can get now. The short-range Kona has the same torque but much less power at 156 hp.
Hyundai also shared some more details about the features of the new Kona, especially the Electric. Like the Ioniq 5 and 6 there is a reclining “relaxation seat” option for the driver’s position. Bidirectional vehicle-to-load charging is also available as on the Ioniqs, via the internal outlet or by means of an external CCS adapter. The maximum charging speed is not given, but Hyundai estimates it takes 41 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. And plenty of tech features are available including camera blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, digital keyless entry and remote parking assist.
