2024 BMW R 12 nineT | Rate first look
BMW Motorrad has announced the successor to the R nineT for 2024: the BMW R 12 nineT. The announcement of this new model comes exactly 10 years after the launch of the R nineT and was introduced in celebration of the “100th anniversary of BMW Motorrad”. The R 12 nineT shares many similarities with the R nineT platform but features updates and a more classic design. More details are expected later this year.
The BMW R nineT was introduced in 2013 with a classic roadster design and a focus on customization options. Since then, BMW has added spin-off models including the enduro-inspired R nineT Urban G/S, the shortened R nineT Scrambler and the R nineT Pure. BMW says the focus on customization will continue with the new R 12 nineT.

Markus Schramm, head of BMW Motorrad, said: “The R nineT and its custom concept have established a new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad’s 90th birthday and have become an integral foundation in BMW Motorrad’s 90th birthday. our vehicle range. “The new R12 nineT continues the legacy of success around BMW’s legendary boxer engine with an even more classic, more compact design language, with even more freedom when it comes to customization and finishing. Last but not least is new and innovative technology.”
BMW is famous for its boxer engines. In fact, the first BMW motorcycle, the R 32, was powered by a Twin boxer flat engine. The R 12 nineT continues that legacy with the same 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled, 2-cylinder boxer engine as the R nineT before it. The addition of the number 12 to the model name reflects the displacement of the engine, a naming technique used for other BMW models.

The design of the R 12 nineT is more classic in appearance than its predecessor, especially in the shape of the fuel tank, saddle and side panels. BMW claims the classic styling and modular design also offer more freedom for personalization.
Edgar Heinrich, head of design, said: “The pure design language is dominated by the clear fuel tank/seat/rear line, in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the decade. 70’s”. “At first glance, the tank itself is a classic BMW boxer tank, with the typical curved bottom edge and classic knee contact. The new R 12 NineT also features authentic Roadster-style triangle-shaped interior panels – another reminiscent of 1970s BMW motorcycles.”
The BMW R 12 nineT will feature a redesigned exhaust system with twin mufflers and conical end pieces, as well as a redesigned intake system and front fenders. The LED taillights are now integrated into the saddle.
More detailed information about the BMW R 12 nineT, including pricing and specifications, is expected in the second half of 2023. Access Website of BMW Motorrad for more information.
