2023 Volkwagen Amarok teases – Ford Ranger-based pickup uses petrol, diesel from 2.0 to 3.0L; Released at the end of 2022


Volkswagen has released the first official images of the new car Amarok pickup truck, which will go on sale at the end of the year. Not like a 12 year old original – which is an expensive basic construction – second generation model will be based on Latest Ford Rangerwas revealed last year.

According to Ranger, the new Amarok is developed primarily in Australia and will be manufactured at the Blue Oval plant in South Africa. It shares the same overall dimensions as Ford, which means it has grown significantly over its predecessor – 5,350 mm long, at least 100 mm longer than before, while the 3,270 mm wheelbase is also 175 mm longer. Tonnage and towing capacity also increased to 1.2 tons and 3.5 tons, respectively.

Wolfsburg says the Amarok’s off-road capability has been improved by a shorter overhang and much higher wading depth limits. It also claims a host of powertrain options for the new model, including one petrol and up to four diesels, which come with four and six cylinders and displacements ranging from 2.0 to 3.0 liters.

This means the Amarok will get Ford’s 2.0-litre Panther four-cylinder diesel engine with 170 PS/405 Nm (with a single turbocharger) and 210 PS/510 Nm (twin turbocharger), along with a turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 producing 250 PS and 600 Nm of torque; There is still no indication what the fourth diesel engine will be.

The Ranger’s 2.0-litre 302 PS/452 Nm turbocharged petrol engine will also likely be offered, as well as six- and ten-speed automatic transmissions and a six-speed manual option. The Amarok will come with rear- or all-wheel drive, the latter in part-time and permanent variants.

While the prototypes shown in these images continue to be covered in camouflage, much of the styling is already visible and looks very different from the Ranger – even though the two cars share the same centerpiece. The front end has been completely redesigned, featuring slimmer LED headlights (optional IQ.Light matrix LED unit) joined together by a large grille.

The bumper, embossed with Amarok lettering, features a contrasting silver X-shaped design on higher-end variants, as shown in previous sketch. The scalloped bonnet and bulging front and rear wheel arches are also unique to VW, although the doors and wing mirrors are carried over from Ford.

There are also differences that are LED taillights with a C-shaped design, and the rear has the Amarok branding stamp. As before, the bed is claimed to be able to fit a Euro pallet to the side, fastened with lanyard loops. VW will be available for the first time with wheels up to 21 inches in diameter, wrapped in standard all-terrain tyres.

No images of the interior were provided, but VW says the Amarok will feature a “tablet-style” digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system, along with an “exclusive” audio system. , faux leather dashboard and optional 10-way power adjustment for the front seats. That sounds similar to the Ranger, right down to Ford’s vertical center screen (10.2 inches is standard, 12 inches for the Wildtrak).

Other features include multiple driving modes – including for “non-standard” (i.e. off-road) driving conditions – and more than 30 driver assistance systems, ten of which are said to be new to the vehicle. with Amarok. For reference, the Ranger is available with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking. and reverse AEB.
