The race is on. The 2023 FedEx Cup knockout round will be before we know it, and this is definitely something that the players participating in the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023 have always been on top of. One of the deepest courses in the short history of the tournament will land at Detroit Golf Club with defending champion Tony Finau leading the way.

Having won the title twice this season, Finau’s game in the tournament a year ago has continued to drag on in an engaging way. Lifting the trophy in Detroit, Finau defended his title last week at the 3M Open before heading into the post-season. Finau is joined by Max Homa and last week’s winner Keegan Bradley, who combined represent three of six multiple-time winners on this season’s PGA Tour.

With such a small group winning most titles, some of the big names that have ever won have failed to do so. Collin Morikawa looks set to bounce back from a surprising miss at the Visitors Championship, with Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama hoping to break their own winless droughts.

Justin Thomas recovered well at TPC River Highlands and added the Rocket Mortgage Classic to his schedule thanks to his place in the FedEx Cup standings. The 15-time Travelers Championship’s efforts were enough to propel him to 66th place in the season-long race, but with the number of qualifiers for the first post-season event reduced to 70, Thomas has little room for error.

Tom Kim and Rickie Fowler accomplish remarkable things in the field with young gunslingers Ludvig Aberg, Sam Bennett and Gordon Sargent capable of delivering fireworks over the 4th of July weekend.
