The 2022 application for Post-Maturity Alliance accreditation is now available on OpenWater and can be accessed through ThoroughbredAftercare.org/Accreditation.
Post-matriculation nonprofits interested in applying must complete an application by the closing date of April 1 at 6 p.m. ET. As TAA accreditation is only granted for a specific period of time, organizations whose accreditation status ends in 2021 that wish to continue to be accredited will need to reapply.
Accreditation status is determined after a full review of the following five areas of care: operations, education, equine health care management, facility standards and services, and policies and application process. Organizations that pass the application review will be subject to a field inspection of all Purebred housing facilities.
Organizations that receive accreditation are eligible to receive grants from the TAA, but prior grants are not an indication of potential future awards. In 2021, the TAA has awarded $3.7 million to accredited organizations in the form of grants dedicated to equine care, totaling more than $24.5 million awarded since 2012 .
Any organization interested in applying for TAA accreditation must meet the following five minimum requirements:
The organization must have current status as a federal nonprofit under 501(c)(3) (USA) or must be a registered charity within the meaning of the Income Tax Act (Canada) .
The organization must have been in operation for at least three years. TAA will confirm operational information, including with the secretary of state or the provincial business registry.
At the time of application, the organization must (1) currently exclusively own and provide care for a minimum of 5 Registered Thoroughbreds, or (2) currently exclusively own and provide services care for at least three to four Registered Thoroughbreds and must have the exclusive right to own and provide care for at least 10 Registered Purebreds within the preceding 12 months. Registered dog breeds that are rented by a rental organization or owned by a third party may not be included in the same facility.
The organization must have a written euthanasia policy consistent with the American Equestrian Association.
The organization, or its head or person directly related to it, will not have any pending legal proceedings against them that would adversely affect their care. , the institution’s standard of care, or its 501(c)(3) status.
