Although no longer holding the WBC heavyweight belt, the name of Deontay Wilder still spreads fear in many people’s hearts. With the Alabama native stopping all but one of his opponents, he is considered by many to be one of the most vicious boxers the boxing world has ever seen.
However, regardless of his penchant for violent knockouts, Dereck Chisora is ready to confront him.
“I’m open to anything,” Chisora said in an interview with Talk Sport. “I love fighting. What most people don’t understand is that some people want to have the awareness of being a boxer on Instagram.”
Chisora, 38, is currently in the midst of one of the worst periods of her career. On December 18 at Manchester Arena, Chisora was netted a total of three times before losing a pretty wide decision at the hands of former heavyweight belt holder Joseph Parker. The loss to Chisora represented his third straight game.
Although Chisora may be struggling to find his form again, promoter Eddie Hearn believes the fringe contender has more than what it takes to not only compete with Wilder but, ultimately, knock him out. me from my tall horse.
“He can beat Deontay Wilder,” Hearn told IFL TV recently. “If he gets hit in the first three or four rounds, then, maybe at any time in the fight, it has the potential to end. But he could outlast Deontay Wilder and let him down.”
At one point, Wilder was the proud owner of the WBC heavyweight belt. But, after consecutive losses to Tyson Fury, both of which ended before the final bell rang, Wilder is now contemplating his next move. At the moment, the 36-year-old has not yet decided, but he has come up with the idea to hang up his gloves for good.
However, until Wilder officially dropped his boxing pants and stepped into the sunset, he remained a top name in the tournament.
As Chisora carefully reviewed her resume, the English native began to smirk in suspicion. Having faced the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko, David Haye, Dillian Whyte and a long list of other notable names, Chisora is proud to have shared the ring with several contenders heaviest member of his time.
If by chance Chisora is given the chance to fight Wilder, he seems undeterred in the face of one of the heaviest boxers in boxing history.
“I want to be the guy that when I sit down and people look at my résumé, I want to say, ‘You know what, I’ve fought everyone in my time.’ I don’t want people to decide for me, I make my own decisions and am happy with my decision. So if I have to fight Deontay Wilder, if I have to fight anyone, if I have to fight an American, I don’t care, I’ll fight.”
