World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will start the weekend at East Lake Golf Club the same way he started – with a two-stroke lead at the 2022 Travel Championship. Sign up for rounds 65. -66, Scheffler rose to 19th under, finding himself only different from the closest challenger, Xander Schauffele.
While his closest pursuer has changed, the immediate task remains the same as Scheffler will try to fend off some of the best players in the game over the course of the next 36 holes. Schauffele made a strong 29-game comeback on Friday to topple this championship in his head as Scheffler was on his way to the FedEx Cup crown. After playing his last three holes in a under-4, the 2017 Tour Championship champion once again asserted his position to lift a trophy at East Lake.
The two Americans have separated themselves from the field, but the man in third place is not one of those who are thirty. Jon Rahm put together a stunning 7 under 63 to get past Scheffler six and will be in the penultimate group on Saturday at 2:49 p.m. ET alongside the man he fought a year ago – and who men started this year’s tournament in second place – Patrick Cantlay.
