2022 LIV Golf in Miami: Team Championship Fixtures, Player Fields, Bounties, Wallets, Live Streaming
In the blink of an eye, the first LIV Golf season came to an end. Concluding the inaugural campaign at Trump National Doral in Florida, the 2022 LIV Golf Teams Championship in Miami will take on a different shape from previous LIV Golf events. With individual titles over with Dustin Johnson topping the regular-season standings, the focus now turns to teams.
The LIV Golf Teams Championship in Miami will run for three days and feature everything from splits, singles, quarterfinals and stroke as teams compete for $50 million.
Johnson’s 4 Aces GC commanded the No. 1 seed overall and said goodbye to Friday’s quarterfinals. Seeds 2-4 – Crushers GC, Fireballs GC and Stinger GC – will also have a day off while the teams ranked 5-12 compete for a spot in Saturday’s semi-finals.
Four-time major champion, Brooks Koepka will lead his fifth-ranked Smash GC into the Team Championship following a win at LIV Golf Jeddah. Koepka picked the litter when the higher seeds chose the teams they wanted to face in the quarterfinals, and the same holds true for the semifinals.
The captains of each team will play against each other in a singles match. The remaining three members of each team will be split between another singles match and a quarterfinal match. The team that earns two points moves on to the next day.
There are several strategies for this as Majesticks GC, in particular, has changed his captain’s name. Typically for Lee Westwood, replaced by European Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter, who will lead the Majesticks in the Team Championship and will be featured in a singles match. Other changes to the teams include recent DP World Tour winner Adrian Otaegui joining Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC and Hennie du Plessis joining South Africa team Stinger GC.
The final day of play will return to standard stroke play between the last 4 teams. Each player’s points will be calculated for their team with the lowest cumulative lineup to be crowned the first LIV Golf Champion.
