2022 LIV Golf in Jeddah leaderboard: Peter Uihlein takes a one-stroke lead over teammate Brooks Koepka

The second round of LIV Golf Jeddah 2022 saw Peter Uihlein’s name climb to the top of the rankings. Finally signing 7 under 63, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy backed his under 67 round on Friday and is currently sitting alone at the top at 12 under.

Starting his game day on the second hole, Uihlein shot out of the gate with four birdies in a row and put pressure on overnight leader (and team captain) Brooks Koepka. Another birdie on the 10th saw the LIV Chicago runner-up hit 10 under for the tournament before finding water at a difficult 13th par-4 that resulted in a double – his only mistake of the day. .

Needing a quick recovery, Uihlein did it with a birdie on par-4 14 and an eagle-birdie finish in the second half. At 12, he’s just one stroke ahead of Koepka and three over former Masters champions Charl Schwartzel and Sergio Garcia.

Not only did Uihlein need to deal with the stress of claiming the individual title, but he and his closest pursuer had to keep an eye on the team portion of the event. Now under 30, Smash GC has a six-stroke lead over the Fireballs, winning last week at LIV Bangkok. With the win, Smash GC will move up to fifth place in the team rankings, which will help the first team choose which team to face on Day 1 of the Team Championship at Trump National Doral.

Leader

1. Peter Uihlein (-12)

Playing both on and off Uihlein’s LIV Golf has been pretty good over the past few months and continues to be at LIV Golf Jeddah. Starting his LIV Golf campaign with a podium finish at LIV Golf London, the 33-year-old has since added a T7 on the Asian Tour, a runner-up attempt at LIV Golf Chicago and finished the finish. in the top 10 at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on DP World Tour.

He’s eighth in the season-long scoring race and with a win it’s conceivable he’ll climb into the top three for a big payday. Nothing was awarded to Uihlein in the final round as he faced Koepka, the four-time major champion with whom he already had history. Having stayed in the same room in Europe while the two went through the Challenge Tour together, the two have become close and are sure to make a comfortable final group.

Other candidates

2. Brooks Koepka (-11)

T3. Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia (-10)

T5. Abraham Ancer, Paul Casey (-9)

T7. James Piot, Dustin Johnson, Sihwan Kim, Anirban Lahiri (-8)

Keeping up with 8 under 62 is always a difficult task, but Koepka brilliantly acquitted in the second round. Registered for a 3 under 67, his biggest mistake was at par-4 number 13. Finding the desert off the tee, he combined a poor spin with another shot and found equal water. his approach to put a double on his scoreboard. Able to recover from the mistake, Koepka added birdies at par-3 16 and par-5 18 to the field in 11th place for the tournament.

Koepka has never been a half-glass guy and his comments after his round insist he still has a lot of work to do. He was frustrated with his driving on Friday and Saturday, and his putt missed. However, he is only one stroke behind Uihlein’s pace, and if he can match his entire match, a score similar to that of Round 1 could be put in place on Sunday.
