Two people died and four others were injured after a shooting at a park in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday night, police said, the latest incident of gun violence just days after five people were fatally shot. at a bank in the city center.
Louisville Police Department Deputy Sheriff Paul Humphrey said the shooting at Chickasaw Park happened around 9 p.m. as hundreds of people gathered to enjoy a warm spring night outside. Press Conference on Saturday night.
Police were still looking for a gunman on Saturday night and said they were unsure if there was more than one gunman.
Sheriff Humphrey said one person was in critical condition.
Officers are still trying to determine a motive.
The shooting happened as the city continued to reel from attack on Monday at the Old National Bankwhere a 25 year old man working at a bank shot dead 5 co-workers and injured 8 others, just a recent incident in a country where gun violence has become cripplingly common.
“This has been a week of unspeakable tragedy for our city,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said at a news conference. He asked for the public’s help in identifying those who disrupted a quiet night at the park with gunfire.
“Let’s unite, let’s help each other,” pleaded Mr. Greenberg. “Let’s make this the city we want.”
