17-year-old arrested, charged in Brian Robinson case

WASHINGTON – DC police on Wednesday announced that a 17-year-old male was arrested in connection with the August shooting. Washington Commanders rookies run back Brian Robinson Jr.

Metropolitan Police Department Superintendent Robert Contee said the young man had been charged with assault with intent to rob while armed. Since the suspect is a minor, Contee will not provide his name or any details about his legal history.

Robinson told reporters on Thursday: “I’m glad they found someone. “I [haven’t] thought a lot about it, just focused on the season. … There was a relief. “

Robinson, 23, was shot twice in the right leg on August 28 near a lively strip of clubs, bars and restaurants along H Street in northeast Washington.

The critically acclaimed third-round draft selection underwent surgery and was sidelined for the first month of the NFL season. Robinson made his debut in Week 5 on October 9 against Tennessee Titansand has since announced the group’s reintroduction of the executive role.

Contee attributed the arrest in part to community tips received by police but would not go into detail about the nature of that tip. He said the local office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was heavily involved in the process of concluding the forensic investigation.

“Violent crime is tackled through good police work, community engagement and science,” he said.

Contee said two other individuals are still being sought who are “involved in this case and should be brought to justice.”

One of the remaining suspects was described by Contee as a “getaway driver” in what appeared to be an armed robbery or carjacking.

Contee said it was unclear whether the attackers knew Robinson’s identity when they attacked.

“It’s definitely closed, just because it’s so random,” says Robinson. “I don’t know who did it. I feel so much better knowing who did it.”

Robinson, who was drafted by the Command in the third round outside of Alabama, has dashed 175 yards and a touchdown so far this season.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
