Sri Lanka vs Australia: Sanath Jayasuriya reacts to historic ODI series win over Australia, Tweets “Feeling very emotional”

Dasun Shanaka delivered Sri Lanka to a historic fourth ODI victory over Australia on Tuesday to the cheers of fans amid the country’s economic crisis. The win meant Sri Lanka went on a winning streak in the five-match contest, taking a goalless 3-1 lead to go into the final game. This is Sri Lanka’s first win in the ODI series at home against Australia since 1992. Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya praised the team for their outstanding performance following their victory.

“Congratulations to the Sri Lankan team on their win for a fantastic series of wins over Aussi at home after 30 years! A real team effort. Well done boys!” Jayasuriya tweeted.

Former Sri Lankan player Russel Arnold also took to Twitter to celebrate the win.

“Great job @OfficialSLC great team effort and looking for ways to win .. that’s how the #SLvaus Soo boys are fun to watch .. the trip to the game for many is total. deserved,” Arnold tweeted.

Sri Lanka captain Shanaka was emotional after the win.

“Not just for me, my teammates, the Sri Lankan cricket team, the whole country, this is very necessary at the moment,” he said after the match.

“I think this should be celebrated by the whole of Sri Lanka.”

He also took to Twitter to celebrate the win.

“Thank you Sri Lanka, thank MY PEOPLE!” he wrote.

After being beaten on Tuesday, Sri Lanka struggled in 3rd/34th place, but the 101-long partnership between Charit Asalanka (110 to 106) and Dhananjaya de Silva (60 difference 61) helped the home team score 258 points.

Australia had a rough start, with captain Aaron Finch fired for a duck, but his opening partner David Warner led their charge.

Despite playing a stellar knock-out, he was sent off at 99 and a lack of support from the other side meant there wasn’t enough to watch them go home.

There were, of course, some dramatic finals, with Australia needing 19 runs and Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka bowling.

Matthew Kuhnemann tried to bring the game to the final serve when he hit 14 of the first 5 serves, leaving the visitors needing 5 to win the last serve.

A boundary could also force the match, but Shanaka managed to send him into the sky a catch against the coverman for a thrilling win.

Australia won the first ODI, but Sri Lanka came back strong to close the series with one game to go.
