After being approached by MTV with the idea of a reboot teen wolfthe author of the series Jeff Davis said that he watched the original 1985 movie due to Michael J. Fox. Knowing that the carrier was hoping to enter the script market with a major series, he wondered what tunes they were hoping to hit. Do they really want a basketball TV show inspired by the “outdated” movie?
Davis finds inspiration in Lost boys and Buffy the vampire slayer, which hopes to be “charming, suspenseful, scary, and funny,” he detailed. “I’m mostly only interested in doing it if it can also be funny and slapstick, or at least, have a sense of irony. And not so serious like all the teen shows. Another teen coming out at that point.”
Before writing the pilot, Davis also read the first two parts Sunset book. While he understands why teen girls — MTV’s desirable demographic — love it, he finds the story “bloated.” Because teen wolfhe wants the audience to “laugh for one minute and then panic – at least the next.”
However, MTV had an important note when they read the test script: “‘There had to be more sexiness. Every scene had to be filled with sex,'” he recalls. “I was sitting there thinking to myself, ‘Do you want a scene where Scott and his mom get drunk with sex?!’ Scene by scene?!’ But they said, ‘This is how we engage the audience.'”
As he recalls, “I remember watching the first trailer and thinking to myself, ‘Okay, they’re selling it like Twilight. We’re awesome.'”
Fortunately, he was wrong.
