“This is a big event,” Ryan Garcia told the media gathered during a press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday to promote his April 22 game against Gervonta Davis, who sat nearby, “It was the biggest game of the year.” Suffice it to say, the young Californian exuded confidence “It’s such a big event but I know I’m on top,” Garcia said. “It’s one thing to gain the moment, another to conquer the moment.” Unlike Davis-Garcia’s first press conference, which took place on Thursday in New York, this time Garcia was sharper in his speech, focusing on his undefeated opponent.
“You like to fight guys who don’t hit hard, but I hit really hard,” Garcia told Davis bluntly. “You’ll wake up in the hospital.” Such a conversation might come as a bit of a surprise to those listening, but Garcia continued. “I see a lot of things I can take you down,” he told Davis. “You can’t do many things…you lost to Barrios.” Davis at one point got up to go to Garcia’s grill. Garcia, however, remained unfazed. “I’m not even worried about it,” Garcia said before referring to the rehydration clause in the combat contract.
“Then why are you exhausting me?” he asks. “I will beat him (Davis). I’ll knock him out and that’s it.” Although he got up and entered Garcia at one point, Davis still seemed unfocused as he took the mic himself. Davis said of Garcia: “He was nothing but a hook. “That was all he had was a hook. He’s not a complete fighter.” Having said that, Davis decided it was his turn to speak directly to his opponent.
“I will take you into the deep water and I will drown you! Oscar, Bernard and Jose Goosen will have to pick you up,” he said. “And that’s from me.”
