I stayed at the Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton in South Africa shortly after it opened in early 2022. However, when I checked my account activity after the holiday, I earned more points than I expected.
Looking at the details, I noticed the “Opening Bonus” is 2,000 points. Then I remembered that Hyatt offers 500 bonus points per night for qualifying stays at new hotels. Since Hyatt does not require members to sign up for this promotion, I have inadvertently received the benefit.
Maybe you also forgot about this promotion. Or maybe you never knew about it. In either case, here’s what you should know about it Hyatt’s World promotions, including current new properties, where you can earn 500 bonus points per night.
How to earn 500 Hyatt points per night
This promotion is very simple: Hyatt’s World members receive 500 bonus points per night for qualifying stays at select new Hyatt properties. To earn bonus points, you must stay within a set time frame, which usually lasts for several months after the hotel opens. Specifically, you’ll only earn bonus points if your checkout date falls within the promotional period for your hotel.
To claim your points, you must provide your World of Hyatt number at check-in and pay at the qualifying rate or redeem your free night rewards (incl. redeem Hyatt points).
If you book multiple rooms in one stay, you will only earn bonus points for one room. However, you can earn new hotel rewards along with other rewards, including most Hyatt’s current promotions.
The terms of this promotion note that it can take three to four weeks for bonus points to appear in your account. In practice, however, Hyatt often posts new hotel bonus points at the same time as other points for your stay.

Key point
In addition to earning 500 bonus points per night, staying at a new Hyatt can also be fun. Finally, you will be in a new room with new furniture. However, new hotels may still be dealing with some issues and may not have everything in place fully working.
I would love to stay at a new hotel, so I plan to periodically check the list of new Hyatt hotels when booking for future stays. When planning upcoming trips, flipping through this list can earn you an extra 500 points per night just by staying at a new Hyatt hotel.
