Would you be willing to pay $180,000 for a classic Mini with Tesla power?

A US-based company converted a 1971 Mk3 Mini Cooper S into electric power thanks to an implant from a Tesla.

The Super Cooper EV uses a Tesla Model S powertrain, increasing power output from 29kW to 300hp (223kW) – when in Sport Mode.

The construction is a joint effort of Gold plated race and UK-based Electric Classic Cars, provided the do-it-yourself screwed adapter.

On Gildred Racing’s website, the company is currently advertising one of these converted Minis with an asking price of US$120,000 (AU$180,669).

The original motor has been replaced by a Tesla Model S front-wheel drive. The Mini now has three lithium batteries with a total capacity of 31kWh, and Gildred Racing claims the electrified Mini has a range of 150 miles (241 km).

The ad says the Mini Cooper comes in the original Riviera Blue paint with Gray Roof, 7.5-inch Cooper S brake discs with Mini Fin Alloy rear drum and the original dashboard.

New additions to the classic car include Tesla’s regenerative braking system, a hidden MagSafe wireless phone charger, an upgraded performance suspension and a checkered yellow, brown and gray interior’ simulated’.

The company has replaced the fuel filler nozzle with an electric charging port. It seems that the car with North American port J1772 (Type 1) only supports AC charging.

Now, the car weighs 200 pounds (90kg) more thanks to a combination of battery and electric motor.

According to videos on YouTube As posted by the company, the battery is capable of charging from 0-100% in just six hours.

The Mini, since being converted, reportedly has traveled 300 miles (482km).

It is known that the car was converted at the end of 2022 and is still for sale.

Gildred Racing specializes in restoring vintage Mini Coopers.

The company offers its customers a variety of body styles, including carriages, utes and trucks.

One of the company’s better known cars was featured on the Netflix TV show The Fastest Car.

The Small cooperative Mk3 1974 removed the original engine in favor of a rear-mounted Acura V6 that produced 500 hp (372 kW). It is capable of completing 0-60mph (96km/h) in four seconds.
