Some of the top stars of the PGA Tour are making the trek south of the border to take part in El Camaleon Golf Course during the 2022 Global Tech Championships in Mayakoba. The tournament opens on Thursday in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and Viktor Hovland returns as the two-time defending champion. The world’s 11th-ranked golfer has his second win at Mayakoba in 2020, then rallied 23 to take a four-stroke win last year. A big surprise from McDonald’s: The expert is fading McNealy, saying “his name simply doesn’t belong in this part of the odds table.” The former world No. 1 amateur has yet to score a win on the PGA Tour and finished in the top 10 four times in 27 tournaments last season. He’s had three consecutive top 20 hits in this campaign but hasn’t scored particularly low. He is 17 years younger in the past two tournaments, shooting 69 or higher in five of eight innings. McNealy can also go crazy, which should get him some trouble on El Camaleon.
The expert, on the other hand, liked what he saw from Morikawa and suggested that this might just be the place to end his triumphant drought.
