World First Aid Day: ‘I watched my partner and friends die from this disease’
In December 1981, the medical journal The Lancet reported the first Aids-related death in London.
The disease claimed the lives of thousands of people during the 1980s and 1990s, many of them young gay men.
Although HIV treatment has improved significantly, those who have lived through this time still remember the stigma and homophobia that used to be associated with the condition.
