Woodbine Documentary Series Wins Hashtag Sports Award


Woodbine Entertainment’s documentary series ‘Woodbine: Free Rein’ took home top honors at the Hashtag Sports Awards in New York.

Led by producers Alanna Nolan and Nathan Riddell, along with director Jake Thompson, Woodbine’s content team was recognized in the Best Women’s Sports Content category for episode 4 of Free Rein, bringing named The World-Class Women of Woodbine. The episode focuses on the uniqueness of men and women competing in the same sport as well as the meaningful presence of women in races. Other finalists for these North American Awards include world-class brands such as the LPGA, Fox Sports, PUMA, Clemson Athletics and The Players’ Tribune.

Now in its sixth year, the Hashtag Sports Awards bring together the sports, media and entertainment industries to celebrate excellence in engagement that inspires new and innovative experiences of fan.

In the award-winning fourth episode, viewers meet three women who have achieved incredible success in the industry: trainer Catherine Day Phillips, and jockeys Sofia Vives and Emma-Jayne Wilson. They share the prejudices, dangers and triumphs they face every time the starting gate opens.

The winning entry for the Hashtag Sports Award was selected by more than 150 Executive and Associate members of the Academy of Sports Entertainment Engagement. Each judge is an industry leader and participating expert nominated and peer-selected for their specific subject matter expertise.

With the leadership of David Vivenes and the support of Chris Lomon, Scott Goodwin and Robbie Abrahamson, Woodbine has contributed to an exciting year of record. Earlier this year, Woodbine won the Eclipse Award and Sovereign Award for short documentary commemorating the 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s final race.
