Woodbine Adds Famous Breeders, Owners To The Board
Woodbine Entertainment on May 4 announced the addition of longtime renowned Purebred breeder Yvonne Schwabe and longtime leading Standardbred owner and breeder Brad Grant to its boards of directors.
Woodbine’s board of directors consists of several committees that focus on specific business areas. Schwabe will serve on the Thoroughbred Racing Committee, while Grant will serve on the Standard Racing Committee.
Schwabe has been a rancher for over 25 years and is the owner of Persley Den Ranch in Acton, Ontario. Schwabe breed notable winner Queen’s Plate 2013 Midnight Aria. In addition to his successful breeding operations, Schwabe is a former director and current Sponsor of the Purebred Aftercare Coalition. She has also served on a number of other industry boards and committees, including as a former Ontario and national CTHS director and manager of the Jockey Club of Canada.
Grant has been a top owner of Woodbine Standardbred six of the past seven seasons and is currently at the top of the leaderboard for 2023. He was also named Owner of the Year 2022 by the Mining Writers Association of America, and has owned a number of prominent horses in recent years, including the Bulldog Hanover and the Atlanta.
Grant has also been recognized by the industry for his philanthropic work, receiving the 2018 USHWA Humanitarian Award.
Hugh Mitchell, chairman of the board, said: “The addition of Yvonne and Brad to our racing committee is a significant boost for Woodbine. “Both of these individuals are highly regarded in the industry and have enjoyed tremendous success. The knowledge and industry experience they have will be relied upon by our board.”
